Small Businesses

The increasing costs of doing business in San Francisco has displaced many Westside small businesses and neighborhood restaurants, which have been the entry into the middle class for so many. As your supervisor, I will support, protect and develop assistance for our small neighborhood businesses by:

  • Keep commercial rents stable –  Provide commercial landlords with tax incentives to  renegotiate lease extensions and keep rents stable.
  • Streamline permitting –  Make the process for opening new businesses and for supporting businesses facing displacement faster and more efficient by reducing unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Encourage flexible use of space - Empower small businesses to cultivate experimentation and creativity by allowing pop-ups and other flexible uses of space.
  • Provide emergency financial support  - Temporarily suspend fees and ease the application process for sidewalk seating and flexible use of space to help businesses affected by the pandemic.
